Wow, was this a well-crafted novel! The story is told from four viewpoints, in alternating timelines, with the narrators dipping in and out of the story irregularly。 There are the storylines of both Meredith and her daughter Delilah, who both end up missing, Leo, Meredith's son and Delilah's younger brother, and Kate, their next door neighbor。 I was continuously speculating about how the storylines would intertwine, where they were headed and what was actually happening。 And I was wrong about pre Wow, was this a well-crafted novel! The story is told from four viewpoints, in alternating timelines, with the narrators dipping in and out of the story irregularly。 There are the storylines of both Meredith and her daughter Delilah, who both end up missing, Leo, Meredith's son and Delilah's younger brother, and Kate, their next door neighbor。 I was continuously speculating about how the storylines would intertwine, where they were headed and what was actually happening。 And I was wrong about pretty much everything。 The story is sprinkled with red herrings too, as the best mysteries tend to be。One of the things Mary Kubica does so brilliantly is her ability to write about normal people, living normal lives, who just happen to have mysteries bestowed upon them。 In Kubica novels random events take place to alter the lives of her characters, which makes it feel so real。 The entire time I was reading I just kept thinking about how this all could actually happen。 I'm still working on my Kubica backlist, but this may be my favorite to date。 。。。more

This book was all kinds of twisty, with time jumps, different points of view, and layers upon layers of occurrences。 However, it was still easy to follow (hint: read the chapter headings)。 There’s a lot going on, and it’s not a spoiler to state that it all becomes clearer the further into the book that you go。 So, stick with it。 I actually found Leo to be the most interesting character。 There were a few times that I thought the red herrings were a bit heavy handed and a few more that didn’t seem This book was all kinds of twisty, with time jumps, different points of view, and layers upon layers of occurrences。 However, it was still easy to follow (hint: read the chapter headings)。 There’s a lot going on, and it’s not a spoiler to state that it all becomes clearer the further into the book that you go。 So, stick with it。 I actually found Leo to be the most interesting character。 There were a few times that I thought the red herrings were a bit heavy handed and a few more that didn’t seem to fit。 Or rather, they seemed to be completely separate from the main issues。 If I’m talking in riddles, it’s because I don’t want to give the plot away。 I would definitely recommend this book。 For a detailed review, please visit Fireflies and Free Kicks。 Thank you to Harlequin Books Park Row and NetGalley for a digital ARC。 。。。more

Mary Kubica has done it again! Local Girl Missing starts off fast-paced and keeps up that pace until the very end。 There are lots of twists and turns, sleight of hand, and red herrings with a great ending that I didn’t see coming。 The story is told in two time periods - now and 11 years earlier - and from three perspectives - two in the past and one in the present。 It took me a few pages to adapt to that format but once I got it, it worked very well throughout。 I was on edge while reading this - Mary Kubica has done it again! What happened to the other local women missing? This is an engrossing thriller, told from multiple POVs and alternating timelines。 Despite some difficult content, author Mary Kubica kept me intrigued and on my toes as I tried to piece together the plot。 The characters are richly portrayed with many emotions and perspectives。 There’s a sense of unease as the tension intensifies, and I didn’t expect how everything would come together。 I always appreciate that in a novel。 As for the ending, it’s a little out there and seems unlikely。 However, it didn’t ruin the book for me, and I appreciate the originality even if I would have preferred something a bit more realistic to match the rest of the plot。 Another solid addition to Kubica’s work, and I would recommend this one to those looking for a suspenseful and gripping read。 Thank you to Park Row for inviting me to participate in the blog tour for this book, and providing me a widget through NetGalley。 The novel will be published on: 5/18/21。 Review will also be posted at: https://bonkersforthebooks。wordpress。com on 5/11/21。 。。。more

Shooooooot。。。 This is a good one。 The first 50-60 pages are incredibly intense。 The rest of it is pretty wild too, but that first chapter is gripping。 I figured out the who pretty early but my guess for the why was off due to mixing up characters。

This was another great book by Kubica。 From page one I was invested on what happened to Meredith and Delilah。 I had my own guesses on how their disappearance was related to Shelby's, but ended up being completely wrong in the end。 It has quite the surprise ending。 This was another great book by Kubica。 From page one I was invested on what happened to Meredith and Delilah。 I had my own guesses on how their disappearance was related to Shelby's, but ended up being completely wrong in the end。 It has quite the surprise ending。 。。。more

The novel is written in three separate timelines with the perspectives of three different people。 I really enjoyed this aspect of the novel as it gives the reader a chance to indulge into the mystery of what happened and to try to piece everything together。 I loved the beginning of the novel because we get a different outlook on what happened to Delilah before we really jump into the details of the story。 It made my heart pump and it really jump started the book! The only thing I would perhaps critic is when you start off a novel as strong as it was, it's almost hard to keep the pace to keep the reader interested。 I will admit that it got a tad bit slow in the middle, but the mystery was there 100% and I was still invested despite the decrease in pace。 Holy, that ending though!! I did not see that coming。 I felt that once one thing was revealed, the rest began to unravel and it felt natural and not rushed。 The ending was tied up in a neat bow and I thought it suited the book well。 I enjoyed the ending and its outcome。 。。。more

This is Kubica's best novel yet。 First, Shelby goes missing。 Not long after that Meredith and her six-year old daughter Delilah disappear。 But eleven years later, Delilah resurfaces and everyone is shocked。 But no one is ready for what they will find out。 Are these two events linked? What happened to the other women? I've read Kubica's novels before, but this one is my absolute favourite so far。 This is a smart, pound-pulsing, thriller at its finest。 Told from the perspectives of Delilah, Kate, This is Kubica's best novel yet。 First, Shelby goes missing。 Not long after that Meredith and her six-year old daughter Delilah disappear。 But eleven years later, Delilah resurfaces and everyone is shocked。 But no one is ready for what they will find out。 Are these two events linked? What happened to the other women? I've read Kubica's novels before, but this one is my absolute favourite so far。 This is a smart, pound-pulsing, thriller at its finest。 Told from the perspectives of Delilah, Kate, Meredith's neighbour, Delilah's brother after her return and Meredith before her disappearance, it is masterful in every way。 Every time I read a novel with multiple characters, I am in awe of the author's talents。 But Kubica does not only deliver with her multiple point of views, she does so with different timelines as well。 I was very impressed with her writing style and despite there being a few characters, it's very easy to follow along。 Each voice was distinct from each other and every character was as interesting was the next。 You might think you might know where this book is going, but there is no way that you will have the book figured out。 I thought I did, in fact I was very confident that I did。 But boy was I wrong, and I think you will be to。I think this novel touches on a lot of different and very important topics such as motherhood and birth。 I think the balance between the emotional aspect of the novel and the thriller aspect of it was well done。 Although it felt a bit like a slow burn thriller, I didn't mind unravelling the story as I went along with the characters because they were very entertaining to read。 I will say that the last bit of the book is a bit more fast-paced then the middle, but again, overall, very hooking。Brace yourselves before reading this one because it's filled with amazing twists and turns。 I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you to HarperCollins and Park Row for providing me with an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more
